How I used 3D Printing to help my mother’s Bakery Business

Hey! My name is Sidhant Jain. I am a techie millennial studying Mechanical Engineering at Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology. I am also very interested in digital marketing and 3D printing! (absolutely anything which can possibly be 3D printed)

After watching some videos on YouTube, I was very fascinated with this field. Since the 3D printing industry has only recently gained momentum, I came to know of it very recently.

At my college, I discussed the concept of 3D Printing with my professor, who guided me and provided resources for me to explore the world of 3D printing. In February 2020, we were even planning to organize a workshop on 3D printing, a plan which got halted due to the pandemic.

In June 2020, I saw the program by Curiosity3D and I took part in it.  Having a 3D printer at home, I got more insight about the nuances of the topic and this course gave me both exposure and perspective.

Everyday I made something on the printer, I grew more passionate about this technology.

My experience of learning 3D Printing was how every beginner’s is: I did numerous hits and trials, creating new designs every now and then.

Now, I look at 3D printing as a future business prospect and I learned how to apply into the professional sphere by creating some designs for my mother’s business- Cake Sapphire. She is a home baker and I made some cookie cutters and customized Cake Toppers. I also made some bookmarks. To explore a bit further, I also made some wonderful puzzles.

Personally, I would like to explore the 3D printing of food and edible material, which could be beneficial in gourmet dining as well.

I contributed a small bit to stopping the pandemic by making face shields and mask ear supporters. I later distributed these to a group of policemen, as a small thank you for looking out for us.

After this program, my professor gave me a 3D Printer to experiment more about this temporarily.

I also went on to write a research paper in 3D Printing with my professor on the topic ‘Experimental Investigation of Tribological Properties of 3D Printed Polylactic Acid (PLA) Pins’ and I presented it in a national conference.

I highly recommend students to gain knowledge and benefits of 3D printing. They should look forward to getting their career options in 3d printing, learning more about this field and even pursuing it as a career.

I feel that 3D printing is a futuristic field, with so many unexplored things.  Rapid prototyping can be used widely in manufacturing prototypes. As a lot of the things would be technologically driven in the future, learning 3D printing could prove to be an important skill for students.

I got to know about it only now, but if the current generation is already taught and eased into the concepts, they can implement rapid prototyping in multiple fields. Even if they don’t want to create new designs, premade designs are already available for implementation, thanks to the gift of technology.

Thank you
